Well here goes on my first ever post for my first ever blog!!!.
It was quite a few months ago that i finally put my thoughts into action and registered for Busselton Ironman 2010. I had certainly been to my fair share of Ironmans cheering family and friends on....that in itself is an exhausting day what with all the hand clapping and cheering.
I have been involved in triathlons for 2 seasons now. My first race an enticer , not completely satisfied with that distanced stepped straight up to sprints. By the end of that first season i had signed up for the Busselton Half. Surprisingly from that race I qualified for the Australian Team to compete in the World Championships Long Course... a fantastic experience and something I will always treasure. So between the half and the Long Course there was very little rest with alot of training thru the Perth winter months.
Next the tri season 2009/2010. The season started off well but then early one Saturday morning while training for the Busso Half 2010 off the bike and into hospital with a broken collar bone. Boy do they hurt!!!! So there endith my season and left with only 5 weeks after recovering to do the Half. I actually went into the Half with no pressure on myself at all and with the attitude of lets just enjoy. Surprisingly i did a PB by 12mins!
And that brings us to now. I have done very little training since the Half, just ticking the legs over with some short runs, very little swimming and some very social bike riding..(one day i may even write a book on the best coffee shops for bike riders in Perth). I had also made a little promise to myself to get away from triathlon a bit and try a few different things out. So Thurs nights has seen me dancin' up a storm at Zumba classes and recently I have been going to Bikram Yoga which i find challenging to say the least.
I am very fortunate to have a brother who is an extremely gifted triathlete. He has competed in 5 ironmans, qualified for Kona in all of them and raced in Kona 2 times. He has recently started his own triathlon coaching business "The 6th Discipline" He has offered to be my coach/mentor in my journey towards my first Ironman. I have already had my swim analyzed by video and my program will be ready to start 2nd August "D DAY". The photo shows "Coach" Brad with Anna in the centre and myself on the end. (Just so you know those brown bottles in the photo are Water Bottles . :) )So far we are his first 2 members of the 6th Discipline. Lets hope we can make him and ourselves proud...
Before i finish this first post I have to also tell you of another team member that you will get to know and that is my husband Will. I say team because I am fully aware that this journey I am about to embark on will only be possible with the support of my family around me. My husband has given me his full support and i know that over the coming months I will be glad to have his shoulder to rest on...
See you all on the 2nd August
